The photo shows Kirk Rosenow, Ronda Long, Ron Dunek and Mike Schrader answering questions at the end of the HFFA’s “Learn About Fly Fishing” at the 2025 Iowa State Fair on Thursday August 14th. Kirk led off the presentation with an introduction and then a discussion of warm water fly fishing opportunities.  Ronda described cold water fly fishing in NE Iowa.  Ronda also pointed out all the various organizations in Iowa involved in fly fishing including: three Trout Unlimited chapters, local groups associated with HFFA, Casting for Recovery and Project Healing Waters.  Ron’s presentation pointed out all of the equipment one might use to fly fish.  He made the point more than once, that one could start with a very few items at a low cost, but also said that hobbies sometimes lead to additional purchases.  Mike went through the various forms of flies and their uses.  There were fly rods set up for casting practice in the hour before the start of the presentation and quite a few folks gave it a try.   The crowd had quite a few questions and several came up at the end to ask more questions and to take a closer look at the equipment and flies.  Thanks to all that came and thanks for all the good questions!!  See you next year!
