Dale Tayloe
2025 Annual Fly Fishing Show Presenter
Sunday, 10:30 AM – Bamboo Rod Making
After 37 years as an engineer with John Deere, Dale Tayloe began making and restoring bamboo fly rods in 2017.
Originally from Missouri, Dale started fishing when he was about 5 years old and fly fishing when he was given a fly rod at age 10. Dale has been a member of HFFA for 14 years and currently serves on the board of directors. He primarily fishes the Driftless and has fished at least once a month for 10 years running.
Dale has built many of the tools he uses to make bamboo fly rods including a beveler, a binder, a heat treat oven, a wrapping fixture, and a finishing rig. Dale was awarded Best-in-Show Runner Up at the 2024 Iowa State Fair in Woodworking for his 6-1/2’ 3wt., the lightest rod he has made to date.
Dale is married to Sharon and resides in Cedar Falls. In addition to building bamboo rods, Dale enjoys deer hunting, turkey hunting, woodworking, singing in church choir, backpacking, camping, and of course fly fishing.
